Born and raised in Calgary, Kristy Kalin was called to the Alberta Bar in July 2020.

Kristy received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in writing from the University of Calgary and is a proud graduate of Cardiff University in Wales with a Bachelor of Law where she was an active member of the community. Kristy served as Vice President and Treasurer of the Canadian Student’s Association, was a member of the Cardiff Rowing team, Creative Writing Club, and was selected for Firm Lead in the NHS Continuing Care Pro Bono program.

On her return from the UK, Kristy completed her Certificate of Qualification from the National Committee of Accreditation of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada and in 2018 worked with Max Blitt, K.C. to co-author a paper entitled “Reducing the Trauma of Child Abduction Proceedings for Children”. Minimizing emotional strain and empowering families remains at the core of Kristy’s work as a family lawyer and mediator today.

As a mediator, Kristy excels at creating a safe space where both parties feel heard and supported, even in high-conflict or emotionally charged situations. She is skilled at breaking down complex issues, identifying shared interests, and guiding clients toward solutions that are practical, fair, and sustainable.

As a lawyer, Kristy is a strong advocate for her clients when alternative dispute resolution, such as mediation, may no longer be practicable. She draws from her well-rounded experience in civil litigation, real estate, personal injury, and wills and estates, to advance her clients’ interests in both the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta.

Outside of work, Kristy is an avid reader and writer and has been published in the Calgary Public Library’s Tap Press Read short story anthology and was a featured writer for the Loft 112 Inner City Stories. She can also be found hiking in the summer and trying to garden, with some success.
